Welcome to Jonbailes.com.
I thought I’d start this blog off with a quick introduction to myself and the site.
The story so far
If you want to know more about who I am and what motivates me, take a look here. Long story short, I’m an author, media critic and freelance writer with a background in social sciences and English teaching. I’m interested in a variety of social issues as well as new media and modern culture.
As for the kind of writing I do, well, in the last two years I’ve finished a couple of books. I’ve also produced dozens of reviews, commentaries and features for online and print publications. As you can see from my portfolio, I’ve focused in particular on video games writing in this time, and enjoy writing both about playing games and their wider cultural impact. But I’ve also written about a range of other subjects, including film, news media, technology and politics.
Now, I’m expanding into new areas. I’m continuing to write these articles while also offering my services as a freelance writer. So I’m open to commissions on many different topics, and I’ll gladly create all kinds of content, from blog posts to marketing copy. If you need a writer with expertise in social issues, or in cultural criticism, that’s perfect. But I’m also hoping to be pushed in new directions. Surprise me!
Finally, of course, there’s this blog. Mostly I’ll use these posts for updates on my most recent work and any info on personal projects I can share.
At the moment, it’s no secret that work is harder to come by, due to the economic repercussions of Covid-19. Fortunately, I’ve at least been able to do some game reviews, since it’s a busy time for new releases. Otherwise, it’s been a good opportunity to plan ahead and branch out, first of all by setting up this site.
With that done, I’m now looking forward to completing new assignments in the coming months.
